Before betting starts on a horse race Betfair places a
Reduction Factor on each horse. The Reduction Factor is the assessment of the
horse's chance of winning the race. It is stated in a percentage between 0% and
100%, the higher the percentage the greater the chance of the horse winning its
race.
You can find the Reduction Factor by clicking the chart
icon left of the horse's name on Betfair's main betting screen. A pop up window
will appear and you will see the Reduction Factor on the top left side.
As soon as Betfair is aware of a horse being withdrawn from
a race they remove them from the market and if the Reduction Factor of the
withdrawn then the odds on the remaining horses will be reduced by an amount
equal to the Reduction Factor. The odds will reduce further if additional
horses are withdrawn.
