Good Morning.

What is the best time to place your bet.

This is one question I get asked frequently and to be quite true full there is no easy answer.

I am only going to talk about the betting exchanges and betfair in particular. I just don't use bookies enough now to warrant including them, and as Betfair tends to have the best and current prices we will stick with this beast.

Although I don't often look at the prices the night before there does always seem to be a swing one way or the other by the morning, when I have noted prices.

I have noticed that a favourite that is not tipped by Racingpost spotlight, tends to start off good then begins a bit of an up hill climb by morning. This is only a general observation and will certainly not be true in every case.

I tend to start selecting tips around 8am in the morning and often find there is a big gap between the Back and lay price at this time even on the favourite, as a layer mainly, I much prefer these prices closer.

A firm favourite at this time is pretty settled, but one that is only just out in front according to the racingpost, will probably be on it's way up.

Some of my v4 selections often start around 6.0 or 7.0 at this time and then work their way up to 8 or 9.00, before either settling there or working their way back down. I often trade V4 selections if this happens and get a free bet, especially if they are not classed as my main nap.

I find the best time to get a good judge of prices is around 10 am, I am not saying they won't move after this, it just seems that the market is starting to sort itself, and the gap between the back and lay price tend to be about right for the book.

If you are off to work early and have to place your bets before you go, then there is not much you can do about it, If you are sure about your selections then you will just have to take the price on offer or miss the bet altogether.

(You could always use Bet-pal to try and get the price you are looking for. )

If you can bet all day then you are fortunate enough to be able to take advantage of the market movements, but even this does not guarantee that you will get the price you want but you do have a better chance.

To be continued...
